Live electrical Consumer units and fuseboards in electrical installations often require various accessories to enhance functionality, safety, and convenience. These accessories help optimize the distribution and protection of electrical power. Here are some common accessories used with consumer units and fuseboards in compliance with BS 7671 (the IET Wiring Regulations):

Circuit Breakers (MCBs): Miniature Circuit Breakers (MCBs) are used to protect individual circuits from overcurrents and short circuits. They come in various current ratings to suit different circuit requirements.
Residual Current Devices (RCDs): RCDs are essential for protecting against electric shock and earth leakage faults. They are commonly integrated into consumer units or installed as separate modules to provide additional protection.
Surge Protection Devices (SPDs): Surge protection devices help safeguard electrical installations and connected equipment from voltage surges and transient overvoltages caused by external factors, such as lightning strikes or switching operations.
Isolators: Isolator switches are used to provide a means of isolation for specific circuits or equipment. They allow for safe maintenance or isolation of a circuit without affecting other parts of the installation.
Time Switches and Timers: Time switches and timers are used for control and scheduling of lighting, heating, and other electrical loads. They are often used in commercial and industrial settings to optimize energy usage.
Enclosure Accessories: These may include enclosure heaters and ventilation to maintain suitable operating conditions within the consumer unit or fuseboard enclosure. Enclosure locks and keys can also be used for security.
Busbars and Accessories: Busbars provide a way to distribute power within the consumer unit or fuseboard. Accessories such as busbar supports, connectors, and shrouds are used to ensure proper installation and protection.
DIN Rails and Mounting Accessories: DIN rails are used to mount circuit breakers, RCDs, and other modular devices within the enclosure. Mounting accessories include end caps, spacers, and clips to secure components.
Labels and Cable Markers: Proper labeling and cable marking are essential for circuit identification and maintenance. Label holders, cable markers, and printable labels are used for this purpose.
Terminal Blocks and Connectors: Terminal blocks and connectors are used for connecting and terminating electrical conductors. They provide a secure and organized way to make electrical connections.
Earth Bars and Conductors: Earth bars and conductors ensure proper grounding and bonding of the electrical installation. They help create a safe path for fault currents to dissipate.
Sealing and Gland Accessories: These accessories are used to maintain IP (Ingress Protection) ratings for enclosures, ensuring protection against dust and moisture ingress. They include cable glands, sealing kits, and grommets.
Extension Boxes: Extension boxes or add-on enclosures are used to expand the capacity of existing consumer units or fuseboards when additional circuits or devices are needed.
Door Interlocks and Padlocks: These safety accessories prevent unauthorized access to consumer units or fuseboards. Padlocks and door interlock systems ensure that only authorized personnel can open the enclosure.
Current Transformers (CTs): CTs are used for metering and monitoring purposes. They allow for the measurement of current in specific circuits or loads.
