Electrical4Less Supports the Next Generation of Talent by giving local students the opportunity to gain genuine experience within a working business.
Electrical4Less recently welcomed a Year 11 student from the Lycée Français Charles de Gaulle de Londres for a one-week work experience placement. It was the second year in a row that the Fulham electrical wholesaler had supported a student from the school.
Based in South Kensington, the Lycée Français Charles de Gaulle de Londres works with local businesses to give its students practical experience of professional environments before they make important decisions about their future education and careers.
As a small independent electrical wholesaler, trade counter and online electrical supplies business, Electrical4Less was pleased to support the school’s work experience programme for a second time.
The company welcomed one student last year and one student this year. Hosting one student at a time allowed each one-week placement to be properly managed and gave the student a genuine opportunity to contribute rather than simply observing the team.

Making the One-Week Placement Meaningful
Behind the scenes, the person responsible for managing the placement at Electrical4Less was Beata.
Alongside handling the day-to-day demands of a busy electrical trade counter, Beata planned the student’s work, explained the tasks and provided the structure needed throughout the week.
Her experience in working with young people, keeping them focused and helping them understand workplace expectations was an important reason the placement worked so well.
The student was not brought into the business simply to watch other people work. During the week, he was given clear responsibilities and practical tasks that allowed him to see how the company operated behind the scenes.
Administration and Bookkeeping Experience
The main focus of the one-week placement was administration and basic bookkeeping-related work.
This gave the student a practical insight into the paperwork, organisation and back-office processes involved in running a busy trade counter and online electrical supplies business.
Although this work is not always visible to customers, it is essential to the daily operation of the company. Orders need to be checked, records must be accurate and paperwork needs to remain properly organised.
The student listened carefully to instructions and completed the tasks he was given. He was not simply an observer during the week and became a genuine help to the Electrical4Less team.
An Excellent Attitude to Work
The experience was extremely positive, just as it had been with the student who completed the placement the previous year.
Both students listened to their manager, followed instructions and approached the work with a positive attitude.
Their punctuality also stood out. On both occasions, the student arrived before the business opened, ready to begin the working day. This made an excellent impression and demonstrated that they took the opportunity seriously.
A Memorable Moment
One light-hearted moment from the placement stayed with the Electrical4Less team.
After spending several focused hours working through administration and paperwork tasks, one student stepped outside the shop at the end of the day, raised his hands and gave a well-earned “yeah!”
Everyone laughed and smiled because it perfectly captured the feeling of finishing a proper day’s work.
It was a small but memorable example of a young person putting in the effort, completing the work and feeling proud of what he had achieved.
A Comment from the School
The Lycée Français Charles de Gaulle de Londres commented:
Electrical4Less would like to thank the Lycée Français Charles de Gaulle de Londres for these kind words and for trusting the business to support one of its students for a second consecutive year.
A Positive Experience for Both Sides
For a small local business, taking part in a work experience placement needs to be practical for both the company and the student.
In this case, the one-week placement worked extremely well. The student gained genuine workplace experience and a better understanding of administration, organisation and professional responsibility.
Electrical4Less benefited from his help, positive attitude and willingness to learn.
The experience showed that even a short placement can be valuable when the student is given meaningful responsibilities, proper guidance and the opportunity to make a genuine contribution.
Supporting Young People in the Local Community
Supporting young people remains important to Electrical4Less. The business has previously supported electrical industry apprenticeship programmes, and this completed work experience placement was another practical way to help a young person understand the working environment.
Electrical4Less was pleased with how the week went and hopes to continue its positive relationship with the Lycée Français Charles de Gaulle de Londres where suitable opportunities arise in the future.
Through carefully managed opportunities such as this one-week placement, Electrical4Less Supports the Next Generation of Talent while also benefiting from the enthusiasm and effort young people can bring to the workplace.
