Supplier Stock Lead Times Explained

Supplier Stock Lead Times Explained

At Electrical4Less, we aim to be as transparent as possible about stock availability, supplier stock lead times and delivery estimates.

Some products are held on our own shelves in our shop and show a stock quantity on the product page. Other products are sourced from manufacturers or suppliers before dispatch. This allows us to offer a wider range of electrical products at competitive prices, but it also means supplier availability can sometimes affect delivery times.

Supplier Stock Lead Times Explained

Supplier stock lead times are estimated timeframes based on normal supplier availability. They are not guaranteed delivery dates, because supplier stock can change quickly and some products may need to be sourced before dispatch.

Where the website shows wording such as “Delivery usually within 1–3 working days”, “Delivery usually within 2–3 working days”, “Delivery usually within 3–4 working days” or a similar timeframe, this should be treated as an estimated lead time, not a guaranteed delivery promise.

Supplier stock lead times are shown to help customers understand expected availability before ordering, but they should always be treated as estimates rather than guaranteed delivery dates.

Items We Hold in Stock

Where a product page shows a stock quantity, for example “81 In Stock”, this means we currently have that quantity available from our own shop stock.

These items are normally ready for dispatch faster, subject to order processing times, courier collection and normal delivery conditions.

If you need a larger quantity than the amount shown in stock, the product page may also show wording such as “More available within 1–2 working days”. This means additional stock may be available from our supplier, but that extra quantity is separate from our own shop stock and remains subject to supplier availability.

Supplier Stock and Extra Availability

Some products are not held fully in our own shop stock and may need to be sourced from a manufacturer or supplier before dispatch.

Supplier stock lead times are based on the usual information available to us, but they cannot account for every live movement within a supplier’s own stock system.

Supplier stock can change quickly, and we may not always have a live supplier stock feed for every product.

Why We Offer Supplier-Stock Products

Offering supplier-stock products allows us to list a much wider range of electrical products than we could physically hold in our Fulham branch.

This helps customers access more brands, more ranges and more specialist items at competitive prices. However, it also means that some orders depend on supplier availability before dispatch.

What the Asterisk Means

Where a delivery lead time includes an asterisk, customers can click the asterisk to read our lead-time and backorder information.

This explains that some products may need to be sourced from our supplier before dispatch and that supplier availability can affect the final dispatch time.

The asterisk is there to help customers understand that supplier stock lead times are estimates and can be affected by supplier availability.

Confirm Availability Before Ordering

Many product pages include a WhatsApp “Confirm Availability” button. Customers can use this before ordering if stock or delivery timing is important.

This is especially useful for larger orders, time-sensitive projects, or products where the required quantity is higher than the stock quantity shown on the website.

If timing is important, we strongly recommend checking availability with us before ordering.

Our advice is simple: please do not book installation work, contractor visits, labour, inspections or project dates until the goods have been received and checked.

All goods should be checked before any work is booked or started to make sure the order is complete, correct, undamaged and suitable for the intended job.

Delivery estimates and supplier stock lead times should not be treated as a guarantee for booking labour, contractors or project dates.

Why Part Orders May Arrive Separately

If an order contains a mix of products, some items may be dispatched from our own shop stock while others follow from a supplier.

This can mean part of an order arrives first and the remaining item is dispatched separately once available.

Part deliveries can happen when an order includes both Electrical4Less shop stock and supplier-stock items.

Supplier Stock Can Change Very Quickly

Supplier stock can change very quickly.

It is possible for a supplier to have a large quantity of an item available at one point, but that stock can then be sold, reserved or allocated to other orders before the next update reaches us.

We have seen situations where an item appears to have strong supplier availability, but shortly afterwards becomes unavailable because the remaining stock has been sold or allocated elsewhere.

In some cases, once supplier stock is gone, the next replenishment may depend on manufacturing schedules, overseas shipments, import lead times or container deliveries, which can take several weeks.

This is why supplier stock lead times are shown as estimates rather than guaranteed delivery dates.

Why Some Supplier Delays Can Take Weeks

In our experience, the supply chain has changed significantly in recent years.

Before the pandemic, many suppliers were able to move certain products and components much faster, including by air freight where required.

Today, more stock appears to rely on longer sea freight, container shipments, overseas manufacturing schedules and import lead times.

This means that when supplier stock runs out, replacement stock may not always arrive within a few days. In some cases, replenishment can take several weeks.

This is another reason why supplier stock lead times are estimates rather than guarantees. Even where a supplier normally has good availability, a sudden stock movement, delayed shipment or missed container date can cause unexpected delays.

Stock Discrepancies Can Occasionally Happen

Although we do our best to keep product availability, lead times and stock information as accurate as possible, occasional discrepancies can happen.

This may be due to supplier stock changing before their system updates, delays in supplier information reaching us, split consignments, courier processing, or products being allocated to another order before dispatch is confirmed.

If we become aware of a discrepancy, we will do our best to update the customer as soon as possible and provide the available options based on the latest information from the supplier.

Working Towards Better Supplier Stock Connections

We are also actively trying to improve how supplier stock information connects with our website.

We have approached our suppliers asking for system-to-system stock connections, often known as API connections. These would allow our website to receive better stock information directly from supplier systems.

We would not display supplier stock reserves publicly, as supplier stock is not the same as stock physically held by Electrical4Less in our shop. However, better supplier stock feeds would help us identify when supplier-stock products become unavailable, so we can reduce the chance of out-of-stock products still showing as available to order.

So far, one supplier has responded positively, and we expect to begin working on the connection soon. This process will involve setup, testing and checks before anything can go live, so it may take some time.

We hope more suppliers will come through with similar connections in the future. In the meantime, we will continue doing our best to keep stock and lead-time information as accurate as possible using the information available to us.

Cancellations and Dispatch

Orders can usually be cancelled before dispatch, excluding special-order items or products already committed into the supplier dispatch process.

Once an item has been released for dispatch or handed to a courier, we cannot physically stop the parcel in transit. At that stage, the order can no longer be treated as a pre-dispatch cancellation.

If an item is being sourced through a supplier, we may need to check the order status with the supplier before confirming whether cancellation is still possible.

Returns After Dispatch

If an item has already been dispatched and is no longer required, this is normally treated as a change-of-mind return.

Our returns policy explains when return postage is the customer’s responsibility and what condition goods must be returned in.

This is especially important for large, long or bulky electrical products, as return courier costs can be significant.

Customers can read the Electrical4Less returns policy before ordering to understand how change-of-mind returns, return postage and returned goods condition are handled.

Useful Customer Information

For more information, customers can also read our delivery information and returns policy pages before placing an order.

For general UK guidance, customers may also refer to official UK returns and refunds guidance from GOV.UK or independent consumer rights guidance from Citizens Advice.

Quick Summary

Supplier stock lead times are estimates, not guaranteed delivery dates.

If a product shows a stock quantity, that quantity is currently held by Electrical4Less in our own shop stock.

Additional quantities may be available from our suppliers, subject to supplier stock.

The asterisk next to delivery wording links to our lead-time and backorder information.

The WhatsApp “Confirm Availability” button can be used to check stock before ordering.

If timing is important, please check availability before ordering.

Do not book installation work, labour, contractor visits, inspections or project dates until goods have been received and checked.

Goods should be checked to make sure they are complete, correct, undamaged and suitable before any work is booked or started.

Some orders may arrive in separate deliveries.

Supplier stock can change very quickly. A product may appear available one moment, then become unavailable if stock is sold or allocated elsewhere.

Some supplier delays can take weeks where replacement stock depends on overseas manufacturing, sea freight, container shipments or import lead times.

Although we do our best to keep stock and lead-time information accurate, occasional discrepancies can happen due to supplier stock changes or system update delays.

Better supplier stock connections are something we are actively working on, but API setup and testing takes time and depends on supplier cooperation.

Once an item enters the courier process, it may not be possible to stop delivery.

Change-of-mind return costs are explained in our returns policy.

Need to Check Stock?

If delivery timing is important, please use the WhatsApp “Confirm Availability” button on the product page or contact Electrical4Less before ordering.

We will do our best to check the latest stock position and advise you before purchase, especially where the order is urgent, large, or required for a specific project date.

Please remember that our advice is not to book installation work, labour or project dates until the goods have arrived and have been checked.
