Live Electrical RCBOs for Circuit Protection

Live Electrical RCBOs are used where individual circuit protection is required within a suitable consumer unit or distribution board. Each RCBO combines overload, short-circuit and residual current protection in one device, helping protect individual circuits and making fault finding easier compared with shared RCD protection.

This Live RCBO range includes compact models, bi-directional wiring options, double pole devices and 3P+N options for selected three-phase applications. Products are available in 6kA and 10kA breaking capacities, with 30mA and 100mA sensitivity options across the range.

Available Live RCBO Options

  • 6kA and 10kA breaking capacity options
  • Type B and Type C tripping curves
  • 30mA and 100mA sensitivity options
  • Compact RCBOs for space-saving installations
  • Bi-directional RCBO options where suitable
  • Double pole RCBO devices
  • 3P+N RCBO options for selected three-phase circuits

Choosing the Correct Live RCBO

The correct Live RCBO should be selected based on the circuit design, rated current, tripping curve, breaking capacity, sensitivity and compatibility with the consumer unit or distribution board. The installer should always check the manufacturer’s requirements before installation.

Type B RCBOs are commonly used for general domestic and light commercial circuits, while Type C RCBOs may be used where the circuit design requires greater short-duration inrush current tolerance. The correct curve should be confirmed by the electrician.

Filter Live RCBOs by Rating and Type

Use the filters on this category page to narrow down the range by current rating, breaking capacity, tripping curve, sensitivity and device type. This helps you find the correct Live Electrical RCBO for board upgrades, new circuits, commercial work, solar-related circuits or EV-related installations.

Installation Notes

Live Electrical RCBOs should be selected, installed and tested by a qualified electrician in accordance with current UK wiring regulations and the manufacturer’s instructions. Always confirm board compatibility, busbar arrangement, fault level, rated current and circuit requirements before installation.

Live RCBO FAQs

What is a Live RCBO used for?

A Live RCBO is used to provide individual circuit protection against overload, short circuit and residual current faults within a compatible consumer unit or distribution board.

Are Live RCBOs available in Type B and Type C?

Yes. The Live Electrical RCBO range includes Type B and Type C options. The correct curve should be selected by the electrician based on the circuit and load requirements.

What is the difference between 6kA and 10kA RCBOs?

The kA rating refers to the short-circuit breaking capacity of the device. The correct rating should be chosen according to the installation design and fault level requirements.

Can Live RCBOs be used for EV or solar installations?

Some Live RCBOs may be suitable for EV-related or solar-related circuits, depending on the installation design and device specification. The electrician should confirm the correct device type, rating and compatibility before installation.

Can I use a Live RCBO in any consumer unit?

No. RCBOs should only be used with compatible consumer units or distribution boards. Always check the manufacturer’s compatibility information before installation.
