The WCED WRB140C-030 Bi-Directional RCBO features 40A C Curve protection, 30mA Type A high-immunity residual current detection and 6kA breaking capacity. Its compact single-module 1P+N design includes switched live and neutral, making it suitable for appropriately designed solar PV, EV and conventional circuits.

WCED WRB140C-030 Bi-Directional RCBO

The WCED WRB140C-030 Bi-Directional RCBO is a 40A C Curve, Type A high-immunity protective device from the Whitecliffe Electrical WRB1 range. Combining residual current, overload and short-circuit protection in a compact single-module design, this RCBO offers 30mA residual current sensitivity and a 6kA breaking capacity for domestic and commercial electrical installations.

Designed for bi-directional operation, the WRB140C-030 Bi-Directional RCBO is also suitable for consideration in solar PV and electric vehicle charging installations where power may flow in either direction, subject to correct device selection and the manufacturer’s connection requirements.

Bi-Directional Protection for Solar PV and EV Applications

The WRB1 range has been developed for bi-directional applications, including appropriately designed photovoltaic systems and electric vehicle charging circuits.

The WRB140C-030 Bi-Directional RCBO combines protection against overcurrents and earth leakage in one device. Its C Curve characteristic makes it suitable for circuits with moderate inrush currents, provided the protective device is correctly coordinated with the installation.

Although designed for bi-directional operation, the manufacturer’s terminal markings and connection instructions must be followed. Bi-directional capability does not remove the need to verify suitability for the particular PV inverter or EV charging equipment.

Type A High-Immunity Residual Current Protection

The WCED WRB140C-030 uses Type A residual current detection, responding to sinusoidal AC and pulsating DC residual currents. This makes it suitable for a wider range of modern electrical equipment than traditional Type AC devices.

The high-immunity design is intended to improve operational reliability, while the 30mA residual current rating provides additional protection against electric shock when installed in accordance with applicable wiring regulations.

Switched Live and Neutral

Unlike RCBOs with an unswitched neutral, the WRB1 range incorporates switched live and neutral as standard. Operation of the device disconnects both conductors of the protected circuit, providing double-pole isolation functionality within a single-module 1P+N design.

This arrangement can simplify circuit isolation and certain insulation resistance testing procedures, helping electricians carry out inspection, testing and maintenance more efficiently.

Compact Design and Bi-Connect Terminals

The WRB140C-030 Bi-Directional RCBO occupies a single module on a standard 35mm DIN rail, helping maximise available space in compatible consumer units and distribution boards.

Its bi-connect terminal arrangement accommodates compatible cable, pin-type and fork/U-type busbar connections, offering installation flexibility. The manufacturer specifies bottom connection, with terminal capacities and tightening torque requirements detailed below.
