Description

Single-Phase EV Consumer Unit with Automatic Reset PEN Fault Protection, Type A C40 RCBO & Type 2 SPD

matt:e SP-R-SPD

Reliable, Compliant, and Automatic Protection for 7.4kW EV Charger Installations

The Ultimate Safety Solution for Single-Phase EV Charge Points

The matt:e SP-R-SPD EV consumer unit is a single-phase connection solution designed for safe and compliant EV charger installations up to 7.4kW. Featuring automatic reset PEN fault protection, this unit monitors the incoming supply and automatically disconnects the charger in the event of a PEN fault—then safely restores power once normal conditions return.

This eliminates the need for earth rods, reducing installation costs, time, and complexity. Equipped with a 40A Type A RCBO for overcurrent and residual current protection, plus a Type 2 SPD, the unit ensures maximum safety for both the EV charger and the electrical system.

Key Features and Benefits

✅ Automatic Reset PEN Fault Protection

  • Detects and isolates PEN faults to prevent hazardous voltages.
  • Restores power automatically once normal conditions are re-established.
  • Ensures compliance with BS 7671:2018 A2 (2022) Regulation 722.411.4.1 (iv).

✅ No Earth Electrodes Required

  • Simplifies installation by removing the need for costly and disruptive groundworks.
  • Reduces the risk of striking buried services, improving installation safety.

✅ Overcurrent and Surge Protection

  • 40A Type A Curve C RCBO provides protection against overloads, short circuits, and residual currents.
  • Type 2 SPD safeguards the EV charger from voltage spikes and power surges.

✅ Simple Wire-In, Wire-Out Connection

  • Straightforward wiring for quick and efficient installations.

✅ Durable Construction with 1-Year Warranty

  • High-quality mild steel enclosure ensures long-term protection.
  • Backed by a 1-year parts warranty.

Understanding PEN Loss and PME Faults

  • PEN Loss (Protective Earth & Neutral Loss): A critical fault in PME (Protective Multiple Earthing) systems where the neutral conductor is lost, leading to dangerous voltages on conductive parts.
  • PME Fault: When the earth-neutral link in a PME system fails, it can result in electric shock risks.

The matt:e SP-R-SPD actively detects PEN faults and automatically disconnects the supply—preventing hazardous voltage exposure. It then automatically restores power when the system is safe again.
