What is PEN Loss and a PME Fault?

  • PEN Loss (Protective Earth & Neutral Loss): A fault in a PME (Protective Multiple Earthing) system where the neutral conductor becomes disconnected, causing hazardous voltage on exposed conductive parts.
  • PME Fault: Occurs when the earth-neutral link in a PME system fails, creating a serious electric shock risk.

The O-PEN® system in this EV consumer unit detects PEN loss and automatically disconnects the supply, protecting users from potential electric shocks and equipment damage.
